So, what does ‘work with ionising radiation’ mean?
The HSE Work with Ionising Radiation (IRR17) Approved Code of Practice and Guidance states that work with ionising radiation means:
- the production, processing, handling, disposal use, storage, holding or transport of radioactive substances;
- the operation of electrical equipment emitting ionising radiation and containing components operating at energies above 5kV;
- work in places where the annual average radon 222 gas concentration in air exceeds 300Bqm³.
