We were asked by an installing engineer to carry out a Critical Examination and Acceptance Test on his behalf for one of his clients. Sarah and Nico were the lucky RPA’s who were booked to carry out this visit in sunny Southwold!
Did you know A Critical Examination and Acceptance Test (CEAT) is required when any x-ray unit is first installed and is the responsibility of the installer. This must be completed ‘prior to first clinical use’ and requires the input of a Radiation Protection Adviser. Arranging the CEAT is generally accepted as being the responsibility of the installing company/engineer and either their, or your, appointed RPA can be used to carry these out. For Veterinary x-ray units: please be aware that if a unit is purchased from a company and installed by the practice then the responsibility for ensuring a CEAT is carried out becomes solely the responsibility of the employer
A CEAT must also be carried out if the unit is moved or has a major component changed such as a tube head or timer.
